So I am sure if you watch TV on even a semi-regular basis you have seen the commercial for Pier 1 Imports where the sparkly, flowery little VW Bug jumps off the Christmas tree and drives around?? I saw this commercial right before Thanksgiving and had the idea I would go to Pier 1 and get an ornament for myself since I love those little cars.
Imagine my shock when I was told they were ... SOLD OUT! Sold out on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Apparently, each store only received a limited number of the little ornaments.
In the meantime, I did register to win a real life VW Bug and you know I am going to win!
I then went home and searched for the elusive ornaments on eBay and I found 7 of them with bids going as high as $95 and one "Buy It Now" for $150. Crazy, right? I considered bidding but then decided I would wait and see if the buzz dies down after Christmas. Maybe if I bide my time, I can get an ornament for less after the time has passed to hang it on the tree.
They are European glass in shades of magenta, blue and turquoise with glittery flowers.

We sold 3 on ebay for 69 bux each.. amazing
That's nice that you made some money on them, but to buy more than you needed is well, let's say greedy!
Some people might have wanted them for sentimental reasons ( I know, feelings don't really matter these days, it's all about the mighty dollar). My daughter is 11 and she always does the punch buggy thing when she sees a VW while wer're driving. I thought it would be a nice ornament to cherish through the years. The ornament sold for around $12, is the amount you ripped people off really something to brag about.
I kind of feel Pier 1 should have made a lot more of those ornaments available. Now they are IMPOSSIBLE to find unless you want to spend a bunch of money on one on eBay. I still say, wait til after Christmas and maybe they will go for less on eBay, maybe....
Holy cow...you and I basically wrote an identical post on the same days...

I wish I could get my hands on one now. Its now the end of February and not one to be seen on eBay. I got very excited the first time I saw the commercial over at a friends house ( I choose not to have cable). I went to pier 1 a few days later and found I was WEEKS late. I turned to eBay to find my beloved ornament. And was shocked at the prices. The people that bought them were only buying to make a buck. I was buying to add to my collection. I have loved the beetle since I was 7, first car was a '73 super. I've had a '69 and now have a '71 super and my daily driver is a 2002 new beetle. One day I will have one, until then its only wishful thinking and shock at how greedy people really are. And shame on Pier 1 for not making more when they showed it in their commerical
