A New Barbie Store

I admit I am kind of excited about this. On Friday, October 2nd, a new Barbie store is opening at the Mall of America right here in the Twin Cities just in time for the holiday season. Barbie is still fabulous at 50 and it has been her year with lots of marketing events celebrating her 50th birthday. Who can forget the pink Barbie VW Beetle or her pink custom made Malibu beach house designed and furnished by Jonathan Adler? (all real life sized).

It is somewhat of a test store that will be open through Christmas or maybe longer, depending on how well it does. Is there a need for a year-round Barbie store? One Barbie is sold every 3 seconds, making her the most popular doll in the world.

The store opening coincides with a Barbie retrospective exhibit of Barbie fashions & her careers. Both the store and exhibit will be open through March at the Mall of America, in Bloomington, MN.

Other temporary Barbie stores have been in Bloomingdales in New York City and Fred Segal in Los Angeles, and there is only one permanent Barbie store--it is in Shanghai, China, and is a 6 level store modeled after the American Girl stores.

A Barbie store sounds like so much fun. I would have loved to go to one when I was growing up

I would love to go shop at the Barbie store! I have always wanted to get some of my girlfriends together and have a Barbie party just because. :)
